Is Celluma Light Therapy right for me?

“Celluma’s ability to manage a variety of pain and skin conditions without the use of drugs or invasive procedures makes it an exceptional tool for both health and aesthetic professionals. Whether it's reducing wrinkles or relieving arthritic pain, the device promotes the body’s natural healing response at the cellular level.”

— Patrick Johnson, CEO of BioPhotas and developer of Celluma Light Therapy

Celluma light therapy is a non-invasive treatment that utilizes low-level light therapy (LLLT) through LED technology to enhance cellular function and promote healing. Developed based on NASA research, Celluma devices emit specific wavelengths of light—blue, red, and near-infrared—to target various skin and musculoskeletal conditions.

How It Works

Celluma's LED panels deliver light energy that penetrates the skin at varying depths:

  • Blue Light (around 465 nm): Targets acne-causing bacteria on the skin's surface, helping to reduce breakouts.

  • Red Light (around 640 nm): Penetrates deeper to stimulate collagen production, reduce inflammation, and improve skin tone and texture.

  • Near-Infrared Light (around 880 nm): Reaches the deepest layers to alleviate pain, enhance circulation, and promote tissue repair.

These wavelengths are absorbed by cellular components, leading to increased production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which fuels cellular processes and aids in healing and rejuvenation.

    Benefits

Celluma light therapy offers a range of therapeutic benefits, including:

    • Skin Rejuvenation: Improves skin clarity, reduces fine lines and wrinkles, and enhances overall skin appearance.

    • Acne Treatment: Reduces acne lesions by targeting bacteria and decreasing inflammation.

    • Pain Management: Alleviates muscle and joint pain, stiffness, and spasms by promoting circulation and reducing inflammation.

    • Wound Healing: Accelerates tissue repair and regeneration, aiding in the healing of wounds and injuries.

The therapy is FDA-cleared and Health Canada–approved for various indications, ensuring its safety and efficacy.

    Treatment Experience

A typical Celluma session lasts about 30 minutes and is painless, with no downtime required. The device is flexible and can contour to different areas of the body, allowing for targeted treatment. It's suitable for all skin types and can be used as a standalone therapy or in conjunction with other treatments.

For optimal results, a series of sessions is often recommended, depending on the specific condition being treated. Many users report noticeable improvements after multiple treatments.

  • SINGLE TREATMENT | $35

    (30 MINUTES)

This non-invasive treatment uses low-level light therapy to help improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, reduce inflammation, and promote healing. During your 30-minute session, you will relax comfortably while LED lights are applied to your skin. Celluma Light Therapy is safe for all skin types and can be used on various areas of the body. After just one session, you'll notice a refreshed, more radiant complexion.

  • CELLUMA T-SHOCK ADD-ON | $25

    (30 MINUTES)

This non-invasive treatment uses low-level light therapy to help improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, reduce inflammation, and promote healing. During your 30-minute session, you will relax comfortably while LED lights are applied to your skin. Celluma Light Therapy is safe for all skin types and can be used on various areas of the body. The science behind Celluma Light therapy

Celluma light therapy operates on the principles of photobiomodulation (PBM), also known as low-level light therapy (LLLT). This non-invasive treatment employs specific wavelengths of light—blue, red, and near-infrared—to stimulate cellular processes, leading to various therapeutic benefits.

Mechanism of Action

PBM involves the absorption of light photons by chromophores within cells, particularly cytochrome c oxidase in mitochondria. This absorption enhances mitochondrial activity, resulting in increased production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the energy currency of the cell. The elevated ATP levels boost cellular functions, including collagen and elastin synthesis, anti-inflammatory responses, and enhanced circulation.

Clinical Applications

  • Skin Rejuvenation: Red and near-infrared light can improve skin texture and reduce signs of aging by stimulating fibroblast activity.

  • Acne Treatment: Blue light targets Propionibacterium acnes, the bacteria responsible for acne, while red light reduces inflammation associated with acne lesions.

  • Wound Healing: Red and near-infrared light can accelerate wound closure and enhance tissue repair processes.

  • Pain Management: Near-infrared light penetrates deeper tissues, alleviating muscle and joint pain by reducing inflammation and promoting circulation.

Most common questions about Celluma Light therapy

  • Celluma should not be used on children under 12, or over the breast or stomach of a breast-feeding or pregnant person.

    • Celluma is clinically proven to treat a variety of conditions, including:

      • Acne and blemishes

      • Fine lines and wrinkles

      • Muscle and joint pain

      • Arthritis

      • Wound healing and tissue repair

      • Inflammation

  • While traditional red light therapy usually focuses only on the red or near-infrared spectrum, Celluma offers a tri-spectrum system: blue, red, and near-infrared light in one device. This versatility allows Celluma to treat a wider range of concerns (skin, pain, acne) compared to standard red light therapy, which typically only addresses skin rejuvenation or superficial inflammation.

  • Yes, Celluma Light Therapy is safe for all skin types and tones. It is non-invasive, pain-free, and involves no UV light, making it suitable for regular use without the risks associated with sun exposure or more aggressive treatments.

  • Celluma should be in close proximity to the area being treated. Skin should also be free of clothing, makeup, or anything else that may deflect light away from the skin.

  • Many makeup formulas contain minerals that may deflect light. Clean, freshly washed skin is recommended for best results.

  • No. You can use Celluma while sitting or lying down. For example, there are two ways to use Celluma when targeting the lower-back region: sitting comfortably in a chair with Celluma curved horizontally around the lower back area, or lying down with the device placed on the lower-back region. The Celluma may also be placed vertically on the spine following the natural curvature of the body. The key benefit of its design is the unique ability to mold its shape to conform to the profile of the body.

  • Frequency depends on the condition being treated. For skin rejuvenation or acne, treatments 2–3 times per week are typically recommended. For pain management, sessions may be needed more frequently at first. Many users report visible improvements after just a few treatments, but optimal results usually occur over a series of 4–8 weeks.

  • Celluma Light Therapy is generally very well tolerated. Most people experience no side effects. Occasionally, mild temporary redness may occur, especially after acne treatments. Always consult a healthcare provider if you have concerns, especially if you are pregnant, taking photosensitizing medications, or have a history of skin conditions sensitive to light.
